Toyota Recalls About 31,000 Cars That Can Lose Power at High Speeds

Toyota has announced a major safety recall regarding its 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid vehicles.
The automotive manufacturer announced in a press release issued last week that approximately 31,000 vehicles are involved in this recall in the United States.
In certain 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrids, “fault can occur in an electronic control unit (ECU) for the plug-in hybrid system in the subject vehicles and can cause the system to shut down while driving,” per the company.
It can lead to “a loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds and increase the risk of a crash.”

The company is asking owners of a recalled 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid to return their vehicle to a Toyota dealer, where the vehicle’s software will be updated at no cost.
Owners of involved vehicles will be notified by early December 2026. Toyota owners can also see if their vehicle is involved in a safety recall by visiting Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls.
According to Toyota, the vehicle can go from 0 to 60 MPH in 5.4 seconds. It also offers 324 net combined horsepower and paddle shifters that “put precise control right at your fingertips.”
The car also has an EPA-estimated 54-mile all-electric driving range as well as a hybrid engine.
