One of Jeep’s Most Iconic Vehicles Is Now Among the Slowest-Selling Cars in America

The classic two-door Jeep Wrangler might be instantly recognizable, but new information suggests that Americans aren’t exactly rushing to buy one.

The 2026 two-door Wrangler ranked No. 12 among the slowest-selling current model-year vehicles in the U.S. in September, according to inventory data from DriveMatch.

Approximately 6,590 two-door Wranglers were sitting on dealership lots, compared to just 1,220 sold during the previous 45 days. At that pace, dealers had enough inventory to last 242 days if no additional vehicles arrived.

Plus, it appears that Wrangler shoppers overwhelmingly prefer the roomier four-door version.

Data from August showed 12,929 four-door Wranglers were sold during a 45-day period, compared to just 1,396 two-door models. While dealers had significantly more four-door Wranglers available, they were selling at more than nine times the rate.

While there’s no concrete data on why buyers are passing on the classic two-door, practicality could be playing a role. The smaller Wrangler seats four people instead of five and offers less than half the maximum cargo space of the four-door model. It can also only tow around 2,000 lbs. Some four-door Wranglers can handle up to 5,000 lbs.

That’s not to say the two-door doesn’t have certain advantages. The vehicle’s shorter size makes it easier to maneuver through tight or uneven terrain.

For everyone else, however, the four-door offers much of the same Wrangler experience with considerably more room.

There could be a silver lining for shoppers who still prefer the classic two-door look. With thousands sitting in inventory and sales moving slowly, buyers could have more room to negotiate on price with dealers who want to clear out their 2026 models.
